Our clients brought a long list of what they wanted to achieve and not a lot of space in which to achieve it. Key to their hopes was more covered space, a spa, as big a pool as possible, and somewhere for a vegetable garden. Yardstick has proudly stepped up and delivered a beautiful modern space for year-round seamless outdoor living.

The interconnection between the new outdoor kitchen, dining, and living areas with its couches and fireplace brings the comfort of indoors to the freedom of outdoors. An almost invisible glass pool fence further connects the living, spa and pool areas , and gives this backyard a feeling of endless flexibility.

The design of the structures carefully considered the balance between shade, light, views from the house, and privacy from neighbours. The new undercover area has an airiness by lifting to the sky, and acts as an important contrast to the pre-existing covered area and roof eaves.

A simple but high-quality material palette connects through the spaces, with clever use of lighting adding a further dimension to long relaxing evenings outside.

While the area available for planting is small, the effect has been maximised with wall gardens and climbers that will slowly soften their surrounds over the coming years.

This project is a great example of what can be achieved between Yardstick and a client with a challenging brief.
